Marlborough to host Santa and holiday lights contest

Santa Claus will be visiting the residents of Marlborough this year.

A Santa Run will be hosted by the Marlborough Fire Department later this month in anticipation of Christmas Day. Using the Glympse application on a smartphone, residents will be able to track Santa as he races through the town. The Glympse application uses GPS tracking to display locations in real-time with estimated arrival times.

Arthur Vigeant, mayor of Marlborough, said that this event is being held in lieu of the annual winter concert and tree lighting ceremony. He said he hopes this special event will bring some holiday cheer to residents as they get an indication of Santa Claus’s whereabouts those days. The Santa Run will be held on Saturday, December 19 and Sunday, December 20. More details about the event are on the fire department’s Facebook page.

The town of Marlborough will also be holding its holiday lights contest. Residents can nominate a neighbor, friend, a stranger, or themselves for the best exterior display in the city. All nominations need to be submitted by Wednesday, December 15 to the mayor’s office. The winner of the contest will be announced on Wednesday, December 23, just in time for the holiday, and will receive a $100 gift certificate to any restaurant in the city. Poster printing is frequently used when such special contests are held.
