The Labor Day Parade, one of the largest in New England, will be taking place in Marlborough next month.
Grand Marshal for the parade will be Matthew Sargent, a trustee of the Marlborough Historical Society and a reserve in United States Navy. Sargent was given this honor due to his recent projects that honored local veterans, such as mapping and cleaning their graves.
Among those returning to participate in the parade are the UMass Lowell Marching Band, the Shriners, and local musicians including the New Liberty Jazz Band, Missy Maxfield, and Flashback. New features in the parade will be the Sudbury Ancient Fyfe and Drums, the 85th Regiment de Saintonge, the Boxborough Minutemen, the Great American Marching Band, and bounce houses for children. Banner printing is one way to garner interest in such parades not only from residents but from those in neighboring communities.
The parade route is 1.7 miles long. It begins at Lincoln and Pleasant Streets, travels along Main Street, and ends at the intersection of Route 85, which is Bolton Street.
Funds to cover the costs for the parade come from donations from individual community members and corporate, commercial, and private organizations. The parade is the product of a partnership of many stakeholders in the city and is designed to showcase the pride people have in their city.
The parade will start at noon on Monday, September 5.
