The request by Stas Burdan for a special permit to build a condominium complex of 11 units near the city center of Marlborough was recently approved by the City Council. A special permit was needed as the area is currently zoned for only two residences.
On the vacant land on Jefferson Street, Burdan will build a two-story building with six two-bedroom, two-bathroom condominiums on the first floor and an additional five on the second. The size of each unit will be about 1,300 square feet.
There will also be a garage built underground with 24 parking spaces, and a driveway system heated so as to prevent the build-up of snow. There will also be a deck overlooking Kelleher Field, a common area, kitchenette, and full sprinkler and fire alarm systems.
Young urban professionals will be the target market for these units. City Councilor Joseph Delano commented that the development will help to increase the number of housing units in the city and bring more people to the field and rail trail located nearby.
Delano added that Burdan has had previous experience with building project in the city, having transformed both St. Mary’s Church and rectory and Corbin Plaza into condominiums
