At the awards ceremony annual recently held for the annual Letters About Literature reading and writing contest, a student from Marlborough was honored.
The ceremony took place at the State Library Reading Room at the Statehouse. Recognized for her Honors letter in grades seven and eight, Erin Kim, an eighth grader in the Fay School, had written to Julia Alvarez about “Before We Were Free.” A State House citation was given to Kim by State Representative Danielle Gregoire. Poster printing can be called upon for such honors to be made known throughout schools and communities.
The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress sponsors the Letters About Literature program. There are state centers for the book in each of the 50 states and in the United States Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia that administer the program. Students who are in the fourth through twelfth grades write letters to authors about speeches, poems, or Books which affected them in some way.
Executive director of Mass Center for the Book (MCB), Sharon Shaloo, told the honorees at the ceremony that the 30 of them were among the top 1% of all those students in Massachusetts who participated in the program. She added that the program demonstrates the importance of reflective writing and thought and the role that Books play in daily life.Get a Free Quote for Books
