The Boy & Girls Clubs of MetroWest will soon benefit from a partnership with the Marlborough Public Schools to help with the educational needs of kids in the community.
The United States Department of Education has given the Marlborough Public Schools a Title 1 Federal grant so that two teachers from the school system can be hired to tutor members at the Marlborough Clubhouse of the Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest during after school hours. The two tutors are Julie Catanzaro, a certified teacher at Marlborough High School, and Julie Dutczak, a teacher from Whitcomb Middle School who will also serve as a behavior technician.
Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning, Mary Murphy, said that there is often an achievement gap in the academic performance of some kids. The Clubs offer a fun and safe environment for kids in the hours after school and it is hoped that adding in the academic piece will help the children even more.
Tutoring will take place twice a week through the end of the school year at the Clubhouse. The two tutors will work closely with their teachers to ensure the students are able to keep up with work done in the classroom. Flyer printing can be used with more information about such programs so parents can also work with the tutors in their children’s academic activities.
