Marlborough reintroduces municipal internships for area college students

An internship program for local college students is being brought back by the city of Marlborough.

The city has been providing these internships for close to 10 years as a way to support students in the area. Mayor Arthur Vigeant said that during these times when municipal governments face shortages in staffing across the state, such programs can introduce students to municipal governments and see how rewarding careers in them can be.

Vigeant said that these internships will give students the chance to work in a real-world, professional environment. He added this that this may be the first chance for some and in the long run will prepare them for entering the workforce. Brochure printing is often used to provide more details about such positions and their duties and purpose.

The initiative was proposed by Vigeant in 2012. He has been able to fund the program since then from monies from the City Council. Throughout its existence, the program has been able to employ over 100 students in the area. All college students are able to apply for such internships regardless of their area of study. Residents of Marlborough are given preference, but all students are encouraged by the city to put their names forward for the program.

Students can fill out an application form online. The deadline for applying is Saturday, April 30.
