A scanning electron microscope has recently been delivered to The Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School (AMSA) in Marlborough. It becomes the first public school in the state to receive such a device.
The microscope is a desktop microscope used for research from Phenom ProX Desktop SEM. A service science company based in Waltham, Thermo Fisher Scientific, donated the microscope.
The new equipment will be used by the school in its research programs in science for those in grades 10 through 12 who conduct research at a graduate school level in areas such as cancer marker genes. Thermo Fisher Scientific said the high-quality resolution and the imaging capabilities of the Phenom will enable the school to reach advanced stages in research, and also provide many opportunities for its students.
The Advanced Math and Science Academy Charter School offers a special science research program for students in grades 10 through 12. The four subject areas in which the students can conduct research are engineering, wildlife management, geochemistry, and molecular biology. Brochure printing can be used so that students can learn more about such programs and how to get involved in them.
Student internships are also offered by the school, including ones at Thermo Fisher Scientific.
AMSA is a comprehensive public charter school that educates students in grades 6 through 12.
