The annual list of Massachusetts’ Best School Districts was recently released by Boston Magazine, and Marlborough was in the top 100.
Statistician and Math Resource Center Director George Recck of Babson College, using the most recent data gather by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, created an evaluation for each school district. Taking into account per-pupil spending, student-to-teacher ratio, enrollment, class size, graduation rate, average SAT scores, and percentage of students going on to college, as well as the third graders MCAS scores, Marlborough achieved an impressive rank of 98.
When it comes time to raise support for school funding, by working closely with Stationery printers, Marlborough and other school districts on the list will likely use this information as promotional material.
To put this ranking in context, Marlborough’s is one of 404 school districts in the Massachusetts public school system, which in 2013 served 954,773 students in 1,854 schools. Massachusetts averages one teacher per 14 students, which is better than the national average of one teacher per 16 students. Additionally, Massachusetts had only 207 students per administrator, while on average there were 295 students per administrator.
The Massachusetts district that ranked number one, with student teacher ratio of 1:12, a 97.3 graduation rate, and over $18,000 in per pupil spending, was Dover-Sherborn School District. Completing the top five were Weston, Lexington, Wayland, and Bedford.Get a Free Quote for Stationery
