A project is currently underway to renovate and expand the Marlborough Public Library. At a cost of $23.7 million, the project will include quiet study and tutoring rooms, a new meeting space with 200 seats, a café, and will expand the young adult and children’s areas.
Flyer printing is often used so that the community can be made aware of the many changes and new services that will be offered.
The original Carnegie section of the building will remain but the addition in the rear that was built in the 1960s will be demolished. Drayton Fair, principal with the firm LLB Architects, said that much of the structure needs to be brought up to meet today’s building codes.
On the main level, there will be sections for adult fiction and nonfiction, the circulation area, the café, and the new tutoring, quiet study and meeting rooms. The Carnegie section will house a periodical section and a local history room.
On the second floor these will be the young adult and children’s areas and the 200-seat meeting room. The meeting space will be flexible so that it can be divided into two sections and will have a secured entrance so that it can be used for community events after regular library hours.
There will be small glass pavilions for some sections of the library so that those walking by can see the activities inside the facility.
