Marlborough company to purchase surgical business

The surgical business of Lumenis Ltd is set to be acquired by Boston Scientific, headquartered in Marlborough. The agreement is between Baring Private Equity Asia (BPEA) of which Lumenis Ltd is an affiliate and will include an upfront cash payment of $1.07 billion.

The surgical business of Lumenis develops medical solutions based on energy, such as fibers, laser systems, and accessories that are used in otolaryngology and urology procedures. The MOSES system of the company which is based in Israel has been proven to be efficient in helping patients with kidney stones and is the heart of its urology portfolio.

Senior vice president and president of Urology and Pelvic Health for Boston Scientific, Meghan Scanlon, said that the combination of her company’s comprehensive kidney stone management portfolio and the MOSES laser technology will enhance company’s offerings, enable it to expand throughout Asia and Europe, and accelerate the delivery of its offerings in stone management to many more urologists and their patients around the world.

Scanlon added that it is looking forward to having the talented employees, the Lumenis laser portfolio, and its surgical laser center to Boston Scientific. Such acquisitions offer require the need for Stationery printers as Letterheads and other materials need to be updated to reflect such changes.

The acquisition is scheduled to close in the second half of this year.
