Marlborough appoints new head of public works

Later this month, Sean Divoll will become the new Commissioner of Public Works for the city of Marlborough.

Divoll has been the head of the Oxford Public Works Department for the past 13 years, and has been an engineer with Weston & Sampson Engineers Inc. in Concord for the past four years. In Oxford, he focused on reducing the carbon footprint of the town and stressed energy efficiency. He modernized its sewer, snow, and ice cleanup; its public maintenance facilities; and its parks. He was also able to secure $4m in grant money for the construction of new traffic signals and sewers. In his new position, he plans to advocate for new energy efficient measures and projects.

Divoll expressed his gratitude in being appointed for this position. Arthur Vigeant, mayor of Marlborough, said that Divoll has a great deal of experience with public works and is fully qualified to lead the department. which has an operating budget of over $30m, a plan for capital spending of between $20m and $60m, and 118 full-time employees. Donald Landers, City Councilor, was impressed with Divoll’s credentials and added that he will be an excellent fit for the community.

Divoll will officially begin his position on Monday, October 19, before which time he will no doubt seek to update his Business Cards.
