Major block grant awarded to Marlborough

In a ceremony that was led by Governor Charlie Baker and other top officials from the government of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts a Community Development Block Grant of $800,000 was recently awarded to the city of Marlborough.

The Marlborough Community Development Authority (MCDA) will use the money for three major projects. The Critical Home Repair Program of the MCDA will put aside $306,00 for housing rehabilitation; infrastructure improvements of McEnelly and Devens Street will be allocated $343,500, with the city funding the remaining amount of the project; and the Boys and Girls Club of MetroWest will receive $49,000 towards its work on the opioid crisis.

Mayor Arthur Vigeant thanked the Governor and his administration in supporting the city as the grant funding will enable the city to continue its work over the past several years in making improvements to the city.

He added that last year, some veterans and residents of Marlborough received funding for critical home repairs and now that program can be expanded for more homeowners in the city. Progress has been made in upgrading city streets and in educating youth about the dangers of opioids, both of which programs can also be expanded.

Banner printing can be used along with other displays that can be posted throughout the city so that residents become aware of such funding and how they can benefit from such funding.
