Library receives donations for renovations

A contribution of $25,000 has been given to the Marlborough Public Library (MPL) by the Rotary Club of Marlborough to go towards renovations.

This follows a donation of $16,000 towards the project by the Marlborough Library Foundation earlier this year.

Aaron Aykanian, president of the Rotary, said that the library is one of the pillars of the community and expressed his thrill at being part of the expansion and renovation efforts. A study room in the new facility will feature a plaque with the name of the club to recognize its support.

The renovations will create a state-of-the-art library that will retain the historic character of the current Carnegie building. Among the new features of the library will be more community meeting spaces, areas for quiet study, an auditorium that will seat 200 people, full compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and an improved technology infrastructure. Parking will also be expanded.

A construction grant of $10.1m was given to the city from the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners to help pay for the renovations, which will cost a total of $26m. The MPL Foundation is currently undergoing a capital campaign to seek donations from residents, businesses, and other organizations to offset construction costs. Local Print shops can help to get the word out about fundraising efforts with the creation of Flyers and mailers.

The project is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2023.
