A new training facility for green jobs has now opened its doors in Marlborough.
The facility will be operated by the South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC) and will offer training on the skills needed to weatherize homes to improve energy efficiency. This will be the only state-of-the-art facility accredited by the Interstate Renewable Energy Council for weatherization skills trainings in New England.
The SMOC operates Green Jobs Academy (GJA), the staff of which will be providing the training. The new facility is next to the Marlborough industrial park campus and is just minutes off Interstate 495. As such, it can offer a hands-on training program that is centrally located for providing entry-level skills in weatherization, as well as customized and flexible continuing education training for experienced professionals. Such training facilities often turn to flyer printing to provide more details about their programs and make them known through a community.
Arthur Vigeant, mayor of Marlborough, said that having this facility in Marlborough aligns with the efforts of his administration to create a more sustainable and energy-efficient city. He hopes that having such training programs in Marlborough will enable the city to run completely on green energy in the future.
The GJA was founded in 2010 and prepares underemployed and underserved individuals for jobs in energy efficiency and the weatherization industries.
