Cultural council seeks proposals for funding of community projects

Proposals are being requested by the Marlborough Cultural Council for community-oriented sciences, humanities, and arts programs. Individuals, schools, and organizations are invited to apply for funds that will support cultural activities in the community.

Invitations such as this one often use poster printing to make themselves known throughout a community.

Samantha Perlman, a spokesperson for the Council, said that it is looking for various kinds of activities and artistic projects that can be held in Marlborough. These can include workshops, performances in schools, short-term artist residencies, and festivals, among others. The Marlborough Cultural Council plans to distribute about $16,000 in grants.

Some of the projects the Council has funded in the past include Elementary Schools PTO, the 36th season of Symphony Pro Musica, the Friends of the Marlborough Public Library, and Assabet Valley Mastersingers.

There are 329 local Cultural Councils, which the Marlborough Cultural Council is part of, and these councils serve 351 towns and cities in the Commonwealth. This funding program is the biggest one of its kind in the country and supports thousands of projects based in the community that focus on humanities, arts, and sciences every year. The Massachusetts Cultural Council is given an appropriation by the state legislature and this council distributes its finds to the local communities.

The deadline for applications is Tuesday, October 15.
