Boston Childrens Hospital expands

Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) has opted to acquire a primary care group of physicians outside Massachusetts.

BCH is in the process of finalizing the deal in question. It will bring Children’s & Women’s Physicians of Westchester (CWPW) under the control of the institution and printing services in Marlborough may be used to promote the healthcare that will be offered. CWPW currently includes over 275 doctors who are employed in nearly 60 locations in three states.

The precise conditions of the deal have yet to be disclosed. However, it has been revealed that the agreement should be completed before the end of the summer and Dr. Kevin Churchwell, a Vice President in health affairs at BCH, has explained how the potential advantages of the agreement became apparent:

“The more we talked the more we realized there was a significant amount of synergies of our belief, values, commitment to patients and recognizing how the landscape of healthcare would change.”

Dr. Churchwell has admitted that there will be complexities associated with the new arrangements. He has mentioned how the board of CWPW will continue to have administrative functions under the proposed system and has noted that the next few years might see further changes.

Dr. Churchwell has been questioned about the possible impact of the move on the rates of CWPW doctors. He has suggested that there may well be alterations to those rates in the future.
