The 32nd annual Jim Forrest Memorial 5K Walk/Run is taking place in Marlborough next month. It is a fundraiser for Greater Marlboro Programs, Inc. and the Special Olympians of the Metro West Communities.
The 5K is open to people of all ages. Awards will be handed out to the top finishers in several age categories, such as 14 and under, 45 to 49, and 80+. The top male and female finishers will receive awards too.
The fee to take part in the walk is $20 in advance and $30 on the day of the race. Those who register in advance will receive a T-shirt and the first 25 who sign up on the day of the race will receive them.
After the race, there will be a free cookout and family-friendly celebration, and beer will also be available for purchase.
Greater Marlboro Programs, Inc. provides help to those with developmental disabilities; these programs include residential care, family support, and social or recreational activities. This event has raised over $150,000 for the organization.
The numbers that walkers wear at races such as this are often donated by Marlborough printing companies.
The 5K walk/run will be held at Wayside Athletic Club on September 25 beginning at 11:00 AM. For more information about the race, to register, or learn about Greater Marlboro Programs, Inc. call 508-485-4227.
