Updated park in Malden now open
Construction at Kierstead Park in Malden is now completed.
The project, which cost $2.2m, upgraded the existing Little League baseball field; created a new playground for children of all ages and abilities; improved safety, lighting, and walkability; and added new trees, among other features.
There are accessible and colorful play structures, safety surfacing, and swings with reflective and light colors to reduce the effect of heat. A large open greenspace can now be found for various uses such as games, running, and picnicking, creating distance between the sidewalk on Eastern Avenue and the playground. The irrigation system and the backstop of the ball field have been replaced and upgraded. The location of the field was rotated somewhat to improve safety and playability.
Additional amenities at the park include parking for bicycles, trash receptables, landscaping, fencing, and new areas for players, as well as new benches, bleachers, and paths. More details about such new features and amenities of a park can be provided with flyer printing.
Funding for the project came in the form of $400,000 each from Community Preservation Act funds, the Community Development Block Grant funds of the city, and the PARC grant program of the state. There was also $350,000 in earmarks from the state secured by Malden’s legislative delegation, and $900,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act of the city.
