The annual Polish festival was held this month at the St. Stanislaus Church in Fall River, and guests got to enjoy some European delicacies upon lush green grass.
The church was founded in 1898 and the festival has been taking place for at least 50 years. Still, banner printing is no doubt used to spread the word about this annual event to those in the city and the surrounding communities.
The feast starts on a Friday night and continues into Saturday with Debbie Grygiel and Adriana Szczupak doing the cooking. According to Szczupak, at least 400 to 500 kielbasas were sold on Friday night alone and Grygiel added that three big pots of kapusta were also sold.
A Polish feast typically includes kapusta, which is a cabbage soup. This or a scoop of baked cabbage was one of the items for diners, and the meal also included one link of kielbasa, two golabki, and two pierogi, all for $10.50 per person. Pierogi are dumplings that are often stuffed with cheese, meat, fruit or mashed potatoes, while golabki is stuffed cabbage.
Along with the old-country Polish food, Eddie Forman led his Orchestra with an accordion with some lively polka music, and many couples took to the dance floor. Forman is from Hadley and travels all summer to festivals and other events.
