Students help with building new rowing center in Fall River
Assistance with the construction of the new Bay Coast Rowing Center in Fall River was recently provided by students from the Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School. BayCoast Bank is supporting the project with a grant of $25,000.
The new rowing center is on the South Watuppa Pond in Fall River, which is 1,550 acres in size. It will enable inner-city youth to take advantage of the sport and enable people with all rowing capabilities and all ages to enjoy the activity. Printing services can be used so that people are kept abreast of the progress of such projects and informed of when they become operational.
Once the boathouse is completed, it will be able to accommodate storage of as many as 40 boats for crew rowing of various lengths.
The students from the Diman Regional Vocational Technical High School have been donating their time since last fall, led by Assistant Principal of Technical Affairs Maria Torres and member of the Building and Property Maintenance Department of the school Patrick Bowen. Over the past several weeks they have been painting the outside of the building and constructing the roof.
The spring rowing program of the center is currently underway and it recently started a Women’s Learn to Row program. Among its plans for the fall are making it available to several institutions of higher education and a buoyed course.
