Students display artwork and learn about the profession
The Juried Student Art and Design Exhibition will be opening at Bristol Community College in Fall River this evening.
This creative annual event features works completed by the students in the programs of art and design at the college. Typically, about 200 pieces are submitted by the students and it is the job of the juror to narrow that number down to the 75 that get exhibited. Elizabeth Duffy, Associate Professor, from Roger Williams University, School of Architecture, Art, and Historic Preservation, is the juror for this year.
The current juried format started in 2005 and gives students the opportunity to learn about the practice in the profession of preparing works for entry into an exhibition. Up to four works made between April 2014 and April 2015 can be submitted by each student. Once narrowed down, the exhibit seeks to show the breadth, strength, and diversity of the program.
Some of the categories in which art work was submitted include Web Design and Animation, Painting, Drawing, and Digital and Darkroom Photography.
The exhibition opens this evening, April 23, with a reception at 6:00 p.m. The students themselves may have even been involved in poster printing to create a piece that can be distributed around campus and in the community to make people aware of this annual exhibit.
