State park in Fall River to host free events

Several free public programs will be held by Fall River Heritage State Park this month.

Such programs are often promoted throughout a city and neighboring communities with banner and poster printing.

Orange Billows, an original sculpture that celebrates the textile traditions of the city, will serve to connect the natural setting of the harbor with the textile industry. The installation of the sculpture will take place on Monday, June 19.

This will be followed by an artist talk on Sunday, June 25 at 1:00 pm by Brooke Mullins Doherty, on the meaning and creation of the sculpture. This project was funded by a grant from the Fall River Arts and Culture Coalition.

There will be a story walk of the book “Every Little Thing,” which was inspired by the song "Three Little Birds" by the iconic musician Bob Marley. The book was written by his daughter Cedella and illustrated by Vanessa Brantley-Newton. This will be held daily throughout the month on the boardwalk from dawn to dusk.

A documentary, “The Fabric of Fall River,” highlights the history of the city from its founding through the era of the cotton industry to the needle trades of the 1980s. This will be shown daily in the Visitor Center Theater at 11:45 am and 1:45 pm during the month.
