Counting House, a new restaurant and lounge with a nod to prohibition, will be opening in Fall River this month.
Counting House is part of the Durfee-Union Mills complex and will be a throwback to the city’s past, offering tapas style cuisine sourced locally and craft cocktails, an array of espresso martinis, and a big mocktail menu.
Durfee-Union Mills is on Pleasant Street and at one point during its operation produced more than 23 million yards of cotton cloth each year. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983 and is now the home to many businesses. The name of the restaurant came from the original use of the building where workers came to get paid every week.
Flyer printing can be used to publicize the opening of such restaurants in a new part of town and their unique offerings.
Brian Corey and Tina Soscia are the owners of Counting House. They have renovated the 19th-century office space to modernize and open it up but have kept some of the building’s original features such as the wood floors at the entrance and the doors. The space has three lounge areas with chairs and couches, high tops, gold chandeliers, a bar with 30 seats, and white marble for the tops of bar and tables. The open vault in the middle of the space is the main feature of the U-shaped bar.
