Construction is currently under way in Fall River on the South Coast Rail project that will link Taunton, New Bedford, Freetown, and Fall River on the Middleborough line with South Station in Boston.
An industrial and commercial building that was 106 years old has been demolished, along with a smaller commercial building adjacent to it on Pearce Street. A new train station to be called Fall River Depot will be built, along with a parking lot that will provide space for 200 cars. Flyer printing services can be helpful in providing more information about such projects.
This work is part of a three-year contract worth $159m that was awarded to Skanska AB of Sweden, a multinational construction company, and D.W. White Construction Inc. based in Acushnet, which is carrying out the demolition work. Both companies are also partnering on constructing a six-track complex for storing trains in Fall River, and a train station in Freetown.
Project manager for the South Coast Rail project, Jean Fox, expressed her excitement about this new train service. Fox said some of the features of the station will be accommodations for electric cars and bicycles, a drop-off area for commuters being driven to the station, and high-level side platforms for handicap access.
The new line is expected to be operational by the end of 2023.
