Several events and exhibits will be coming to the Fall River Heritage State Park this month and next. These will be held at the Visitor Center in the Captain Thomas J. Hudner, Jr. Memorial Building.
A featured exhibit is “Sing! The Sesame Street World of Composer Joe Raposo.” This exhibit celebrates Raposo who attended Harvard College to study music and was one of the creators of Sesame Street. It covers the life of Raposo with many of his friends, including Lena Horne and Frank Sinatra, as well as hosting images of the Cookie Monster, Big Bird, and Elmo. Another exhibit will feature Lewis Wickes Hine’s photograph, which focuses on working conditions in Fall River’s textile industry.
There will also be daily films. One will be five featurettes on the friendship of Captain Thomas J. Hudner from Fall River and Ensign Jesse Brown, his partner in the Navy and first Black naval pilot. This film will be at 10:00 am. Another will be on the role the abolitionists of Fall River played in the Underground Railroad. This film will be screened at 11:00 am and at 3:00 pm.
Family-friendly activities such as these are often promoted throughout the community and surrounding areas with poster printing.
Both exhibits are on display every day in February and through Friday, March 10th from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. The films will also run daily through March 10th.
