New engine joins Fall River fire department

A new fire engine, the Engine 9 pumper, is the latest addition to the Flint Reney/Eastwood Fire Station of the Fall River Fire Department.

Fall River Fire Chief John Lynch commented that a new era has begun for the fire department with the new engine, signaling a partnership and alliance with the state delegation, the council, and the administration. Everyone working together has helped the department to make progress over the past two years.

In addition to the new pumper that can work through 1,500 gallons of water a minute, the department will be getting a ladder truck and three more pumpers as a result of a loan of $5m from the Community Development Agency.

Mayor Jasiel Correia II added that this new equipment was part of an effort to modernize the department and provide it with the best equipment.

The new engine was christened at a special ceremony where Captain Sean Flannery, who will be the commander of the new engine, used the water from the apparatus of the old number 9 pumper to wash the new engine. Red towels were given to those who attended the ceremony, who then were asked to dry the new engine.
