New childrens experience comes to Fall River

The new Children’s Aquarium and Exploration Center opened in Fall River last weekend.

Currently, there are 100 fish and other aquatic animals on display in the aquarium. According to the curator of the aquarium, once it is at full capacity, there will be more than 1,000 such creatures, including jellyfish and sea horses.

Against the walls are tanks with salt, fresh, and brackish water, the largest of which holds 220 gallons of waters. ‘Touch’ tanks are in the center for kids to get up close with the aquatic animals, with trained guides alongside them providing more information about the creatures.

Prince Jake the bearded dragon, Gammy the tortoise, and Trouble the parrot live in a land room, where there is also a ‘dress up’ area for young pirates, mermaids, and sharks to get into character.

There is a craft and play room for young children to create sea life from egg cartons, paper plates, and the like, as well as a gathering room for educational events and birthday parties. The aquarium may want to look into creating Flyers with more information about the cost for birthday parties and the food, gifts, and other items that are included in these parties.

Following the March 5 opening, the aquarium is now open three days a week. Hours are Friday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday noon to 5:00 pm.
