Inaugural library event takes place in Somerset

On Saturday, February 7, the Somerset Public Library held its first ‘Take Your Child to the Library’ winter carnival. The library is just a few miles north of Fall River, so residents of that community could participate as well.

Children and adults were able to get out of the house on a cold winter day and enjoy some games and crafts, win prizes, and get a free book. There was also a local balloon artist who twisted balloons into animals.

Take Your Child to the Library started in 2012 in Waterford, Connecticut and is now a national event, designed to reintroduce people to the library, get children to know their local library, and teach them to enjoy Books.

According to Chris Matos, who is a children’s librarian at the Somerset Public Library and organized the event, it is a grassroots event that not only promotes services for children but is just the thing to do on a cold winter day.

A page at the library, Rachel Downs, said that she was having as much fun as the kids. They had a chance to play simple games such as beanie throws, fishing with poles, and a frog toss.

The library may have used banner printing services to create items to post throughout the town and surrounding communities to announce the event and attract attendees.
