The City Council of Fall River has approved an amount of $1.6m to be used for capital improvements in the city.
Mayor Paul Coogan expressed his pleasure in the approval of this funding. The funds will be used for one-time capital expenses, and will enable the police to purchase one unmarked cruiser, five marked cruisers, a Kubota for snow removal, 20 active shooter kits, and upgrades to traffic lights and rehabilitation for gas tanks. The department was allocated $410,300. Funds will enable the Fire Department to replace a maintenance shop emergency generator and a fire dispatch system.
More than half of the fundings, an amount of $937,100, will be allocated to the Community Maintenance Department for updates at the Lewiston Street facility, renovations at playing fields, and replacing aging equipment. Also included is equipment for the expanding the parking kiosks of the traffic department, which help to generate revenue for the city. Often, local printing services are used to create Booklets and other printed materials with more information about such capital improvements made in a city.
Jeffrey Cardoza, Police Chief in Fall River, expressed his appreciation for those who supported the expenditures for the department as these items and updates are much needed. He added that mechanics are constantly working on the vehicles in the department.
