Fall River to host Portuguese festival

The fourth annual Fabric Arts Festival (FABRIC) will be hosted by the Casa dos Açores de Nova Inglaterra (CANI) in Fall River later this month.

This festival is designed to celebrate the social and urban culture within Fall River, as well its surrounding communities of New Bedford and Providence, which also have deep roots in the cultural heritage of Portugal.

Such unique events are often promoted throughout a city and a region with flyer printing.

Michael Benevides, and Jesse James, co-founder of the event, are organizing the festival along with a team of producers from both Europe and the United States. James is a curator based in Portugal. There will be multiple locations where a class of artists are set to be showcasing their work, in addition to a wide variety of events that will include art exhibitions, music concerts, gastronomy, educational workshops, and the installation of public art.

Benevides said that with the FABRIC being held in Fall River as well as Providence and Bedford, audiences will be able to view the city and the surrounding communities as an area of geographic intersections and arrivals, with a set program focused on the cultural codes, languages, and aesthetics that create the region. James expressed his excitement about this year’s edition of the festival that will showcase a program of contemporary North American, international, and Portuguese artists.

FABRIC will run from Thursday, October 5 through Saturday, October 14.
