Fall River police department to hire officers

The Fall River Police Department is looking to add officers to the department.

Such departments can turn to poster printing to let the community know of such open positions.

The goal of a police officer is to protecting property, life, and the civil rights of individuals. Specific duties include interacting with citizens to render assistance and provide service; patrol; and preparing and completing reports and other paperwork that document incidents for use in prosecution. Police officers respond to reported accidents, violations, and other incidents; conduct investigations; and interview those who make complaints and witnesses.

Qualifications to become an officer include having a high school diploma or certificate of equivalency as approved by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education or three years of experience in the armed forces.

Those who would like to become a police officer need to take the civil service exam. Registration is now open for the exam which typically takes place in early to mid-March. Candidates need to 19 years old on or before the date of the exam and 21 years old by the time they are appointed as a police officer.

Once candidates pass the civil service exam, they will be interviewed by the command staff, be medically evaluated, and need to attend and pass a Municipal Police Training Committee Police Academy which lasts for five months.
