Fall River commences building of new commuter rail service
Construction is currently underway on the South Coast Rail commuter rail project in Fall River.
Banner printing is often used at such sites to keep the community informed regarding the progress of such major projects.
Each weekday between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. there will be work done below and next to the railroad bridge at Pearce Street near Davol Street. Jean Fox, project manager for the South Coast Rail, said that this will be the home of the future Fall River Depot Station. Work to be done here will include the installation of micropiles that will serve as part of the foundation of the elevated train station and construction of a stormwater detention tank.
Fox added that during the same time, work will also be done at a site which spans 20 acres on North Main Street that will be the Weaver’s Cove layover facility. This is the original site of St. Vincent’s Home orphanage and is adjacent to the former Shell Oil petroleum storage operation. Work done here will include utility work, earthwork, and installation of sewer, water, and drainage piping.
The Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority is expecting that this new commuter rail which will serve Fall River, New Bedford and Taunton from South Station in Boston should begin before the end of 2023.
