Funds in the amount of $69,559,142 from the American Rescue Plan Act will be awarded to Fall River for several projects.
Mayor Paul Coogan said that $8,350,000 of these funds will be used for the replacement of water mains in the city. A minimum of 17,720 feet of water main and at least 36 lead services will be replaced with reconstruction of the sidewalks and streets that will be affected by this project.
The Fall River Police Department will receive $474,686 for improvements to public safety. These will include increased walking beats, bicycle patrols, and gang prevention programs. The department will also get 20 new radar speed displays and 50 security cameras.
An amount of $75,000 will be used for the annual Children's Holiday Parade in Fall River. This parade is important for the economic development of the city, bringing in tourists, and providing entertainment for the city’s young people. The parade will take place in Kennedy Park at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 4. Such projects and their means of funding are often advertised and made known throughout a city with poster printing.
Coogan said that these funds are an opportunity for the city to take care of some issues which will help to improve the quality of life in the city. He added that there are still funds which need to be allocated and that a process for applying for the remaining funding is being formalized.
