Surprise return for DHS Class

On May 25, 421 Deerfield High School seniors graduated as the class of 2016 and there was a surprise guest at the ceremony.

Lucy Yellen gave a graduation speech

about the significant memories one acquires through school. Chris Dignam, Enfield High School principal, announced the honor students such as Benjamin Edelstein, Julia Aronson, and Benjamin Sachs as valedictorians. Spencer Siegel, David Zhao, Bradley Pineless, and Caylee Silvers were salutatorians. Zaki Hasan Naqvi received the John F. Kennedy Medal of Honor. Dignam praised Naqvi for his never-ending quest for success, his musical abilities, and completing his advanced placement classes.

Principal Audris Griffith retired June 30th of last year but promised her homeroom that she would be at their graduation at Highland Park's Ravinia Festival Pavilion. Her students were elated that she kept her promise. Rosie Brodsky was one of her students and, according to the Chicago Tribune, had her doubts that Griffith would come. Drake University hopeful Lilly Feiger commented on how Griffith loved her smile.

Griffith expressed regret in not seeing her students through their senior year. Graduation is a milestone in American society. It was important for her to be there although she currently lives halfway across the country. When the students left after the ceremony, Griffith stated that her students were now adults.

It is common for schools to order several custom materials from a Print company to commemorate a graduating class.
