Presidential anniversary marked at the Y

The annual North Suburban YMCA meeting for 2016 will be at 6:00pm on October 20th. It will also celebrate the 10th year that Howard Schultz has been the President and CEO. The NSYMCA serves Northbrook and parts of Deerfield.

A decade ago, the branch of the YMCA was about to close and stripped of their Y USA charter. Membership was down, it was buried in debt, and had run-down facilities. Along with the branch's board, Schultz started the "Save the Y" campaign. It emphasized the importance of the Y for the community. The branch was able to get out of debt and re-establish their reputation to Y USA by 2008. Since then, several capital campaigns have covered the costs of remodeling the building, bringing it up to code and providing quality programs for the community. More members came in and the NSYMCA earned recognition as the 2013 Small Business of the Year by the Northbrook Chamber of Commerce.

A lobby reception will kick off the annual meeting, which will go until 8:00pm. The NSYMCA is located at 2705 Techny Road. The branch will also acknowledge Sharon Feldser, Joni Goldstein, and Megan Tyner as long-time associates and discuss the future of the NSYMCA. There are new board members and programs to announce.

With the new programs, the Y may need brochure printers to highlight what is available at the local branch, memberships costs, and discounts.
