Next week, concept restaurant Portillo's will open a location in Deerfield.
It took over two years to pinpoint 700 Lake Cook Road as the spot for the ‘70s inspired fast-casual eatery chain. This location, which used to be the site for an On The Border location, was previously considered, but it was thought that the soil was unsatisfactory. After looking into a second site, planners decided on the original location.
Dick Portillo, the founder of the restaurant chain, has had confidence in the site since the beginning, as did Mayor Rosenthal, who suggested the Lake Cook Road location. The other site, part of Deerbrook Shopping Center, did not have adequate parking and was an empty space. In the past, it had been the location of a Bally Total Fitness on the corner of Waukegan and Lake Cook.
Mayor Rosenthal admitted that Deerfield citizens often asked about the restaurant so, it was important to get the ball rolling as soon as possible. He added that it took effort and some negotiations with the company to achieve this.
The restaurant serves items like hamburgers, hot dogs, salads, sandwiches, and specialty dishes. Other Portillo's locations offer themes from different time periods, such as the ;50s and during prohibition.
Flyer printing companies can help Portillo’s advertise the new location by displaying the ‘70s flair this particular location will have. It opens on Tuesday, November 15.
