There will be several more programs available for the district of Deerfield Park summer camps.
The district has disclosed computer programming and sports camps as new additions, along with yoga and archery advancement programs. The new camps will go from June 11 until July 6 for five days a week and are for children about to start kindergarten through grade 8.
Since District 109 of Deerfield Public Schools will not hold summer school, the district has added the additional programs. According to Michael Lubelfeld, superintendent of schools, there were only 11 affirmative responses for summer school.
Not every camp is available to every grade but there is still an array of programs for students and families to choose from. The junior program for golf starts at age eight but students starting kindergarten and grade 1 can attend the STEAM Cooking camp, combining both science and culinary skills.
The camp for sports will include gymnastics, yoga, and hip-hop dancing. There are also camps for chess, theater, dancing, and art. The computer and technology camps teach students how to make video games and robots. Park district child supervisor Ginny Wiemerslage stated that yoga, track and field, and archery classes that are not part of the enhancement series are still new to the schedule.
