Randie Bricker is a first grade teacher at Wilmot Elementary School in Deerfield. On October 23, Gallagher Benefit Services, Symetra, and the Chicago Bears named her the "Symetra Hero in the Classroom".
According to parent Meredith Chandler, Bricker's teaching reflects her passion in the field. She inspires her students and the community alike. Her classroom environment is based on openness and caring while still being safe. She uses both individual and group work to round out her students' education and gets to know each of her students, watching them grow into adulthood. Her commitment and work ethic reflect in the goals she sets for her students and how she talks and listens to them. Chandler was the one who nominated her for the award. Parents, students, principals, or administrative staff in the school system can nominate a teacher. They are judged on how much of a difference they have made in their students' lives by teaching them life skills and if they give more than expected on a daily basis.
Fifteen other Chicago metropolitan teachers are to be recognized during this football season as a Symetra Hero in the Classroom. After a surprise presentation in the presence of colleagues and students, each teacher wins Bears tickets where the announcer will recognize them on the field.
