The Suburban Food and Beverage Employee of the Year is Edgar Garcia, who is part of a Deerfield hotel's kitchen team.
Garcia is a line cook for the Embassy Suites in the Chicago-North/Shore Deerfield area. The Hotel and Lodging Association for Illinois honored him last month at its yearly award ceremony, Stars of the Industry.
Other recipients of the award have a chance to win the state competition at the Magnificent Mile, part of Embassy Suites in Chicago. Steve Baskerville, the meteorologist for WBBM-TV who is also retiring this year, will host the state competition on December 14.
There were 11 types of awards given to hardworking staff who showed attention to detail and exceptional interaction with patrons and employees. Garcia scheduled and opportunity for the team to try the hotel’s food items during the ceremony.
In addition to the event, the Chicago Police Department and the Hotel and Lodging Association will team up for the greater good. As part of law enforcement's program against domestic violence and the division of community relations, they will collect items for the Cold Hands, Warm Hearts program. Items needed include scarves, mittens, and coats that are new or slightly used.
The Embassy Suites-Chicago can now put in its Brochures that one of its kitchen staff won this award. It would give incentive for guests to have events at the hotel.
