Deerfield's neighbor, Highland Park, has a temporary high school principal.
Highland Park High School's math department chair, Deborah Finn, is this upcoming school year's interim principal. The school board of high school district 113 chose her on July 30. The board needed time to look for a superintendent which will take about a year. Elizabeth Garlovsky, president of the board, said a contract for Finn is still in the works.
Finn said she was surprised when the board offered her an administrative position. However, she wanted to be of help when the district needed it as it went through an array of changes. Finn is confident in her knowledge and experience with the school system and saw the appointment as an unexpected opportunity.
Elizabeth Robertson, the principal of Highland Park High last year, took the available position of curriculum, assessment, and instruction assistant superintendent. After two years when her contract is up, she will retire.
Deerfield High School is where Finn began teaching in 1997. For the past ten years, she has worked with Highland Park's department of math. She has a Masters in Education with concentrations in supervision and administration along with a Masters in Teaching with a concentration in mathematics.
