The Berto Center in Deerfield may see renovations to accommodate sports programs from businesses.
The former training facility for the Chicago Bulls caught the eye of North Shore Sports and Wellness, which disclosed its intent to buy and remodel it. The Deerfield-based company manages multiple health and athletic enterprises such as Movement Revolution, Joy of the Game, The Institute for Human Performance, Felicity School, and multiple volleyball and basketball clubs. NSSW will relocate its sports teams, Felicity School, and Movement Revolution within a mile's distance.
Mike Nekritz owns part of the business with his brother Ed and his father Barry. He said that each business has the same goals when it comes to wellness and sports. The company sought to move when the owner of the Deerbrook Shopping Center, where the business sits now, wanted to develop a large residential area on the property. The shopping center was set to be demolished.
The Bulls practiced at the Berto Center for over two decades and before stopping in 2014. Nekritz coached basketball in the past and expects the school's athletes are inspired by the Bulls' half dozen championships when they trained at the Berto Center. Basketball legend Michael Jordan also trained at the Berto Center.
Banner printing is a way to commemorate the grand reopening of such centers and build spirit in various sports teams and schools.
