Football team recognized by organization for developmental disabilities

The Chicago Bears are awarding a $100,000 grant to the Center for Enriched Living (CEL) in Riverwoods, which also serves the Deerfield area.

CEL received the most votes for the Bear's online Community All-Pro contest. The team will honor CEL on December 22 during a home game. The contest's grant donations totaled $1mto celebrate 100 seasons of the Chicago Bears.

There were 10 organizations that won a grant, nine of which had been selected when CEL came into the running for the 10th position. Two other charities competed against it through a week of voting by fans that ended in late September.

According the CEL CEO Harriet Levy, the organization is thankful for every vote and the Chicago Bears for awarding the grant. CEL works with individuals with developmental and intellectual disabilities to supply them with better chances to thrive in life. The grant will go toward employment for those with developmental disabilities, seeing as there is an 85% unemployment rate among developmentally disabled adults in the area.

The organization's Employment Program promotes job readiness along with the skills needed to secure employment such as interview skills and résumé writing. In addition, the grant will aid CEL in creating potential employer partnerships in order to pair individuals with a suitable job fit.

Grants often come with a certificate bearing one of the Letterheads of the organization awarding them.
