Through their visible teamwork, the girls’ basketball team for Deerfield High School won on December 5th against Maine East Demons by a score of 46-34. It was the first winning game of the Central Suburban League North season for the Warriors.
Coach Mike Muldrow of the Deerfield Warriors commented on how the extra defensive practice paid off during the game. Margot Sylvan expanded, saying that each player helped cover each other and formed a wall the other team had trouble passing.
Sylvan scored 12 points during the game, despite her change from starting point guard to shooting guard. Teammate Jesse Holloway is aiding her in adjusting to the position, along with making sure she has ample opportunities with the ball during the game.
Holloway shined during the game by giving Deerfield a 12-point lead at the beginning of the second period and another point by rebounding a shot. She believes that assertion and a little aggression from a leadership stance are the keys to the team's success. She stated that she was motivated by assisting her teammates rather than her own time with the ball.
