Next month, the Deerfield Public Library will hold the Virtual Write Your Cookbook Memoir Workshop for those wishing to capture their family food stories and recipes in the written artform.
The writing workshop is designed to appeal to those individuals who love to cook and have cherished memories of cooking and enjoying food and mealtimes with their loved ones. Expert author and published novelist Laura Ehrke will lead the class, showing students how to use their writing skills to turn their family recipes into a thoughtful cookbook that captures the unique spirit of their family’s heritage and highlights the complexities of how food is embedded in our daily lives.
Students will participate in writing exercises to help them remember memories related to each recipe they include. They will also learn effective interviewing techniques to help them interview family members and friends to capture detailed and engaging anecdotes about food. Ehrke will go over options of how to share the finished product as well, whether that means simply printing out the cookbook to share with family or considering professional publishing options and printing services.
The writing workshop is scheduled for March 16 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Deerfield Public Library can be found at 920 Waukegan Road. As the class is a virtual event, the program link will be emailed to registered participants.
