The Deerfield Public Library is hosting a variety of events this fall, suitable for all ages.
On October 19 at 6:30pm, there will be a Harry Potter-themed escape room to commemorate the 20th anniversary of ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone’ releasing in the United States. The youth program coordinator for the library, Amy van Goethem, has disclosed the event.
Adults and teens are welcome, and unusually for the library, this event is after hours. Participants will have to use information from the Books to gain clues on which spell will allow them to escape. Van Goethem stated that it was going to have various decorations incorporating magic-themed graphic designs. The event is for kids reading the books now, as well asadults who have read them in the past.
Before that, this Sunday, September 23, the library will open one hour earlier to help patrons who require a lower amount of stimuli to use the library. The library would like to show people with sensory problems that it understands their needs, and also provides Play-Doh and fidget toys.
On the same theme, storytime on September 26 and November 17 will be geared towards sensory issues. Participants will read, sing, and tell stories using their fingers in a quieter environment. The library will also have a special viewing of Finding Dory for sensory-sensitive kids on October 10.
