Deerfield open house showcases Toastmaster membership

Next month, Deerfield will hold the Toastmasters Area Open House to offer information on what membership in the organization is like and how it can benefit working professionals.

Founded in Colorado in 1924, Toastmasters is now an international nonprofit educational organization that teaches individuals how to be effective communicators and confident leaders. The organization has around 270,000 members spread out across more than 14,000 clubs in 150 countries. Members of these clubs build their public-speaking skills, leadership qualities, and communication skills through preparing and delivering speeches and responding to fellow members’ impromptu questions, while receiving constructive feedback.

The Deerfield open house will be presented both in person and by Zoom. The open house is intended to inform attendees on how membership in the local Toastmasters club can help them achieve their goals of becoming a more accomplished and confident communicator. The event will also include fun games and activities, free snacks and beverages, and chances to win gift cards.

Open houses are often advertised to their intended audience through flyer printing and distribution, a more traditional form of advertising that can reach many people in an easy, low-risk manner.

The Toastmasters open house will take place on January 8 from 6:45 pm to 8:30 pm. The in-person session will take place at the Deerfield Library, which is located at 920 Waukegan Road.
