According to Deerfield officials, workers can start construction on the Pfingston/Kates Road Bridge.
The state budget was passed on July 6 despite opposition from Bruce Rauner, Illinois governor. Since federal funds that the state receives will help pay for it, the Department of Transportation paused all state funded construction until the final budget came out.
Lorig Construction will be responsible for the project and will start imminently. The contractor's later start time should not drastically affect the finish date, which is set for Thanksgiving of this year.
Back in March, Lorig Construction won the project bid for a little more than $2 million. The company will remove the old pavement and put new asphalt on the existing Pfingston/Kates Road. It will also build a new bridge deck, improve small drainage issues, repair the pavement where necessary, and add a traffic light at the Corporate 500 intersection.
When the bridge went through inspection in April, it was deemed deficient in structure as there were cracks underneath it. Most of the cost of the bridge's reconstruction – 80% to be exact – will come from the government, while the village will cover the rest.
Once construction is finished and the foliage around the area grows back, a postcard printing company could make the new bridge the focal point for new Postcards from the village.
