Peoria-based Caterpillar Inc. is moving its headquarters and several top officials to Deerfield.
There were talks of the move almost a year ago, but the machinery company filed the paperwork at the beginning of January, with the address being Suite 100 at 510 Lake Cook Road.
The commission noted the change but Caterpillar refers to the dateline in Deerfield for official business communications, and this has been the case for months. The file also mentions board of director member Jesse J. Greene Jr. retiring at the end of 2017. The document notes that Greene did not have any dispute with the company, and simply retired because Caterpillar has an age limit for directors.
Last year, the company disclosed it was not moving to the Downtown area after the plans for global headquarters were hindered. Instead, it would build smaller headquarters outside of Chicago starting with 100 employees. Around 300 people in total would work at the new location, although these numbers are still estimates. In April, the company disclosed a Deerfield location, and employees started working there that summer.
Caterpillar is moving to Deerfield after company numbers bounced back in 2017 from what PJStar.com describes as a “four-year slump.” Stock prices slowly began to increase as well.
