The town of Deerfield is looking for artists in the area to loan their works in order to improve the town’s public program for the arts.
Specifically, officials are asking for murals, paintings, and other artistic media to put into government buildings such as libraries, the Village Hall, buildings in the park district, and the facility for public works. Each piece will spend a year on display and then the town will pick new pieces to display in their place.
There are several guidelines for the artwork. The pieces should display a unique and original concept, be well made, and able to be on display without diminishing. It should be able to withstand vandalism, environmental elements, and not difficult to maintain. No pieces should depict adult themes and should be safe for all ages.
In addition, Deerfield representatives are looking for a sculpture to put outside in the park where Waukegan and Deerfield roads connect. The sculpture should be no more than 20 feet high and have a maximum diameter of 10 feet. The sculpture must also allow pedestrians walk around it. Government officials may wish to use small replicas of the statue as Corporate Gifts.
The art program is five years old and is available for any serious or professional artist with a permanent art form and a knowledge of public art. Students are eligible to be in the program.
