Area tropical fish event to bring unique selection

This January, the GCCA's Tropical Fish Swap will take place in Northbrook, not too far from Deerfield, should any town fish enthusiasts be interested in attending.

The Greater Chicago Cichlid Association (GCCA) is a nonprofit organization made up of cichlid hobbyists whose mission is to educate the public about the biology of the fishes in the family Cichlidae and how to effectively and humanely breed in captivity. The Tropica Fish Swap will invite all tropical fish enthusiasts to come and mingle with their peers, learn about new species, and even find a unique selection of fish to purchase.

The swap is the largest source in the Midwest to buy fish, food, plants, and equipment related to tropical species. Described as a farmers' market for fish, the event will feature reputable dealers selling fish that Deerfield residents can’t find in local stores. There will be cichlids, both New World and Old World; catfish and plecos; swordtails, guppies, and other livebearers, angelfish, and more featured at the event.

Vendors at events like this will often send out classifieds describing the selection they will bring to the event. These classifieds may come in printed form, which may cause vendors to seek the help of local printing services in their area.

The fish swap is scheduled for January 7, beginning at 9:30 am. It will be held at the Hilton Chicago Northbrook. Admission is $5.
